How to Choose Workstation Fabric for Office Partitions and Pinboards
Workstation fabric is more than a decorative surface. On partitions, desk screens and pinboards it must wrap neatly, remain visually consistent across repeated panels and suit the way the panel will be manufactured and used.
Begin with the panel application
First identify where the fabric will be used. A vertical workstation partition, frequently handled desk screen, acoustic panel and pinboard do not have identical requirements. Explain the panel substrate, finished dimensions and whether the fabric will be pasted, wrapped or stapled.
For pinboards, the complete board construction must permit pins to enter and hold properly. Fabric provides the visible finish; the backing substrate determines much of the pinning performance. For acoustic panels, fabric selection should also be coordinated with the panel-system designer.
Check composition, width and performance
A consistent commercial specification helps manufacturers repeat the same result across a project. RC Collection is a 100% polyester crape workstation fabric supplied in a standard width of approximately 54 inches. The width must be compared with the panel face, edge return and cutting allowance.
Abrasion resistance, rubbing colour fastness and surface consistency matter where panels receive regular contact. Technical values should be reviewed together with the application; a single specification cannot describe the complete performance of the finished partition or chair.
Choose colour under project lighting
Workstation colours should be evaluated beside flooring, laminates, metal finishes and seating. Daylight, cool office lighting and warm interior lighting can make the same shade appear different. Use a physical shade card or sample rather than approving colour only from a phone screen.
Where one colour runs across many workstations, confirm the total quantity and try to procure the phase from one production batch. Consistent cutting direction is equally important because textured fabric can reflect light differently when panels are upholstered in opposite directions.
Calculate quantity before ordering
Calculate fabric from the panel size, number of faces being covered, edge wrapping and realistic cutting waste. A simple square-metre calculation can understate consumption when the usable fabric width does not divide efficiently into the panel dimensions.
Share a panel drawing or cutting size with the supplier when possible. For large floors or phased installations, retain additional material for site changes and later replacements. Confirm shade code, available metres and batch before production begins.
Use samples and a trial panel
A small trial panel is the safest final check. It reveals how the fabric stretches around corners, accepts adhesive or staples and looks over the actual substrate. The approved trial also gives production teams a reference for direction and finish.
